Our less than 5 Minute Meditation

When most people think of meditation, they often think of serious discipline,  long twice daily practices of long deep silence.

As a meditation teacher I encourage both adults and children to include daily meditation into their life to help them feel less stressed, more at peace, more balanced, happier, healthier and more connected to self.

But the facts are daily MEDITATION doesn’t have to be the traditional 20 minutes meditation, at least twice daily,  first thing in the morning and later in the day, although the benefits of this can’t be expressed enough. Meditation is about fully being in the moment, or on one thing at the one time. And there is so many different types of meditation that can do that, some more effective than others.

Over 12 years ago I was asked to teach at a local secondary school, where there was a lot of challenges, I had taught young people meditation before and it was always a little bit of a challenge to make meditation teenage friendly. I soon came across some Qi Qong style based meditation, which I adapted for my work. This 5 minute technique became the most popular technique I have ever taught over the last 12 years and it takes just over 4 minutes, a wee bit different from the more Traditional based Meditation styles such as Transcendental and Mantra Meditation although like all meditation but it still has a traditional slant, not a guided meditation where on guides someone in their thoughts but one that helps loosen the tight grip we have with her thoughts.

As most of my work involves teaching stress management, the biggest thing many of my clients wants to see is some sort of tangible result, quite quickly. The 5 Minute Meditation is extremely effective, clients and students are very surprised at how quickly this technique, can help the, experience deep calm at a stressful event or as a power nap for an exhausting day, it can be practiced in the office, at home, it can be done with the kids  between, it can be even be practiced on public transport.

This is a great meditation for beginners and more experienced meditator’s who want something simple and effective
