What is NLP Therapy? And why can NLP Therapy be a helpful skill in coaching, healing, and therapy when used safely and effectively?

What is NLP Neuro-Linguistic Programming?

NLP which stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a psychological and personal development approach to more effective communication and mind training using what is called “Modelling”.

Now “Modelling” is a specialised form of studying people. NLP Therapy was developed by Dr. Richard Bandler and John Grinder.

NLP is based on the theory that we all process and communicate our thoughts, feelings and emotions in different ways.

What is NLP Therapy?

NLP Therapy Is the use of Neuro-Linguistic Programming in therapy to help reduce anxiety, stress, depression and phobias. NLP Therapy was developed by Dr. Richard Bandler and John Grinder.

NLP Therapy is often used to help assess how clients process their thoughts, feelings, and language. I teach my Relaxation Therapist Students some basic NLP therapy tools that help move their clients from a state of anxiety, stress or fear into a state of calm or confidence.

Most Common NLP Therapy Techniques

The use of imagery techniques in imagery training is a form of mental training where one mentally rehearses certain situations or goals using creative visualisation techniques.

Modelling is an NLP technique that is very much used in the Personal Development industry. It is based on modelling certain behaviours on people you admire to achieve a certain goal, level of skill or success. It is commonly used by athletes to improve their sports performance and mindset. Modelling is also widely used by executives and entrepreneurs to increase business success and sales performance.

Mirroring is a widely used NLP therapy technique that is widely used in some forms of counselling and psychotherapy to help build a better rapport with the client. The therapist will usually mirror the client’s body language, energy and tone of voice to build deeper connection and trust, and to reduce anxiety and stress. Empaths tend to do this very naturally. Mirroring is also widely used by salespeople in the art of persuasion and successful negotiation techniques.

Incantations are basically affirmations that are said and experienced by your mind, body and soul that transmute through your conscious thoughts and unconscious thoughts.

Swish NLP Technique is an NLP Therapy Technique that can help us change how we feel, think and act.

The Use Of NLP In Hypnotherapy

Neuro-Linguistic Programming is widely used in hypnotherapy to help change very distorted unhealthy thinking patterns. The therapist carefully uses assessment and the application of certain language to help make positive mind shifts in the client’s unconscious mind.

Hypnotherapy and NLP can be a powerful way to reach one’s unconscious with that power comes a certain level of ability to harm and heal.

That is why when looking for a Hypnotherapist or an actual NLP practitioner to help you with certain challenges you want to ensure your practitioner is highly qualified and skilled.

I have lost count of the number of clients and people I have met who felt more harmed by fast-track trained hypnotherapists’ misuse of language, lack of skills or awareness. I personally have had 2 very alarming experiences with hypnotherapists one actually used the words let’s heal your broken brain during a hypnotherapy session. Another took me back to a traumatic memory of where I nearly drowned and left me in the traumatic experience.

An example of how the ineffective use of language in hypnotherapy or NLP can actually have a detrimental effect on someone’s unconscious.

The key when using NLP in hypnotherapy is ensuring the therapist always uses a highly safe and effective NLP script suitable for that client or that the therapist is extremely highly qualified and skilled in Hypnotherapy and NLP.

In our Accredited Relaxation Therapist & Relaxation Teacher Training, I teach our students some very extremely safe and effective NLP skills that help relax and empower their clients in a way that helps the client feel more in control.
